Import Fixture Profiles

Open Fixture Editor → Import, or use the import option while adding a device. Imported profiles become editable local fixture definitions. Always check the selected mode and footprint against the fixture manual before patching.

Browse the library

  1. Choose Browse library and search by manufacturer or fixture name.
  2. Filter by All, OFL, QLC+, DDF or D4. If several sources describe the same fixture, choose a source; Open Fixture Library is marked Recommended.
  3. Select the fixture and inspect converted modes, channel counts and available warnings.
  4. Import, review the channels in Fixture Editor, and patch the mode actually selected on the physical unit.
Source Catalog Local files
Open Fixture Library (OFL) Yes OFL JSON (.json)
QLC+ Yes Fixture definitions (.qxf, XML)
DDF Library Yes .xml, or .zip containing XML; images are not imported
Avolites D4 Yes No dedicated local-file picker
GDTF Restricted; see below .gdtf, under the same restriction

Import files

Choose From files, use the picker for the correct format, and select one or more files. Inspect the conversion results before importing. A file that cannot be read shows an error; warnings describe partial conversion and require review rather than implying full compatibility.

GDTF availability

GDTF catalog, preview, download and local-file import currently require a signed-in account and developer mode. The GDTF controls are absent outside that combination. For a catalog fixture, choose an available revision and mode, inspect the preview, then import an editable profile or download the source file.

What the conversion preserves

Depending on the source, imports preserve supported channel mappings, named ranges, resolution bytes, DMX defaults, physical movement limits, fixture dimensions, white temperature, wheel colors and compatible shutter/strobe settings. GDTF can also carry physical geometry and independent light sources into the visualizers. Missing source metadata does not create measurements automatically.

Inspect direction on reversed analog ranges, defaults, head assignments and geometry in the editor. Ambiguous or incompatible mappings may keep a generic representation and show a warning. Descriptive channel ranges alone do not activate a shutter/strobe effect; verify the operational settings described in Strobe & Shutter.

Imported modes can be renamed by double-clicking the mode name or using its context menu. Review Fixture Editor for manual corrections, or use Reverse Engineering when the physical fixture's behavior is unclear.
